A few cute stories

Snow day!

Decorating cookies

A little pampering

It's been a few weeks and I wanted to write about a few cute things before I forget. First: the other day Adlen saw my bottle of lotion on the table next to our bed and she looks at it for a second then tells Justin to put the lotion om my feet. So I got to enjoy a little pampering thanks to Adlen. Second: Adlen was going through the cupboards in our kitchen and found the pitcher we usually mix juice in and then she went to find the sugar that we put in it and she tried to pour the sugar in to make juice, so once this was discovered we assisted in helping her make juice. Third: my mom was in town to help with the new baby I didn't have and she and Adlen had the chance to bond and decorate sugar cookies. It was a lot of fun having her her and spend some one on one time and do mother daughter things (you know shop, bake, play games, chat..).

On a side note tomorrow is our big day that we welcome Tysen! I'm especially getting excited to be done with my pregnancy but more importantly to have a sweet and small addition to the family. I'm anxious to see who he looks like (my guess is Justin), and what kind of personality he will have!

PS- it snowed in Vegas yesterday and it was very exciting. It has now melted for the most part but Adlen had a great time stomping in it and touching it

An interesting Thanksgiving

A more traditional Thanksgiving

Because we at so late Julie was able to join us after eating at her sisters, and helped with Adlen while we were in the hospital

The morning started out fairly normal, the boys (Justin and his brother) woke up early for turkey bowl, and I stayed behind to start dinner (roast, since none of us are big turkey eaters, a few sides and of course, pie). Around two, when all the preparations were done I hopped in the shower to get cleaned up and when I got out something happened that made me question whether or not my water broke (I dikdn't have it break with Adlen so I wasn't sure). I called our nurse hot line and all the women I knew that might have recently had their water brake and inquired about what it feels like. After about 30 minutes debating whether to go to the hospital we thought it might not be a bad idea. We got to the hospital at about 3 and they hooked me up to the monitors and kept an eye on me and made sure everything was still in one piece, which it was. Then I started having contractions and after a little while of them being 4 minutes apart the nurse decided to give me an I V to help eliminate them and a shot. This took about another hour. So after two hours of being watched and poked at they sent me home. Once home the day picked up as normal, dinner and pie.

Just an update

I feel that we've been busy just getting things ready for the baby! It is still looking like Tysen might be coming on the 17th, I of course would love to have him sooner. I'm big and uncomfortable and anxious to be done. For me, I don't enjoy being pregnant, it's all about just getting the baby here. I don't marvel at the changes my body makes, I feel like that's how I'm designed, so that's no miracle, but getting back to my pre-baby weight, now that's where the miracle is! However, when ever he does come it will be so fascinating to see who he looks like and how Adlen will be as a sister. I think once Tysen is here we can then begin to think about the Holidays. Up till now we haven't really given it much thought, and I've been stuck on what to get for Adlen. Justin and I just decided to wait on gifts for each other and do the shopping together once things settle down a bit. Not very exciting but might make things simpler!
We hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving,
Love the Hills

A Lesson in Love

Today has been a tough day with Adlen. She was up at about 6:40 and from about 8 till 12, when she took her nap, it was one tantrum after another. Crying over not going for a walk, changing her diaper and trying to get her dressed. Then she woke up (about an hour and half later) and followed with another string of tantrums, wanting to play on the balcony and then not wanting to play on it and not wanting to eat her lunch and still, trying to get her dressed and another diaper change. I found my self loosing it, to the point that I was yelling at her and being mean to her. Finally around 3:15, after an hour or so of this, she sat on my lap and cried, and I followed thinking to myself that I just need to get it together. I held Adlen and told her that I was sorry for yelling and that I loved her, she then looked at me and wiped my tear off my cheek.

Family weekend

Ashley, Jake, Jaden, Justin, me, Adlen, Talin and Grandma (Julie)

Time with grandkids

me, Adlen, my brothers wife, Jessica, and her sister Cami

Adlen, Talin and Jaden

This weekend was my baby shower for Tysen. I was really looking forward to it and what was really exciting was that Jake and Ashley from Utah decided to come, a last minute choice for them. They got in Thursday night and the cousins played, while parents did damage control. On Friday Julie came to town and we hung out and Justin made a great lettuce wrap meal (thanks honey). Saturday the girls did some last minute shower shopping getting home in time for us to clean up the house and put the food on the table. I had gone upstairs to lay Adlen down for her nap and about 30 minutes before the shower, I went downstairs to try and help, and in my surprise there was my sister in law (and her sister Cami) from Arizona! I didn't know she was coming in town and like any pregnant woman who experiences emotion during her nine months, I cried. I was so happy that both Ashley and Jessica drove so far to come. We had a fun time at the shower, Julie who hosted, planned really fun games and many of my new friends here in Vegas made it. Then we all went to the strip to hang out and on Sunday got everyone together for breakfast before Jessica and Cami left. Then the rest of us played at the park and met up with an old friend of Jake and Justin's before Jake and Ashley left.
I'd also like to say thank you to my brother Mark for taking on three kids by himself so Jessica could come.
I really felt blessed this weekend

Kissing Scale

"10"
"9.5"

"7"

Justin likes to kiss. Which I don't mind (obviously) but on occasion he'll ask for a kiss and then right after he'll say "4" or "8" and every so often I'll hear "10". He has informed me that the rating is based on the following: length of kiss, softness, moisture, and pressure. Sometimes in a joking- but- not- really manner I protest this system, he says it's so I'm at my best; I say a kiss is a kiss and beggers can't be choosers!

UNLV vs. TCU

Justin likes to listen to sports radio and sometimes he'll call in for free tickets. Well Friday was considerably profitable for him. Winning tickets to Saturdays game against TCU and a game next Saturday and even tickets to the Chargers vs Raiders game (living in Ca most of his life and being a Chargers fan, he's never been to a game, you can imagine how excited he was). So on Saturday we made french toast, hung out in our PJ's, I cleaned the house and I did a little shopping. Then we all got ready and went to the game. Although UNLV lost, we had great seats and Adlen enjoyed watching the game, listening to the band and watching their dance team!

Trick or Treat!

After trick or treating she wanted to organize her suckers!

Well trick or treating went well, Adlen managed about an hour of it and got lots of goodies. She was a little nervous about the routine but had a good time over all. I can't believe next year we'll do this with two kids...yikes!

Diaper in Question

This evening we did bath time fairly early and while Adlen was taking her bath I decided to take a shower, you know maximize my time. I had just gotten out when Adlen came running into my room and Justin asked if I could check her diaper. I had just put lotion on my hands and said I could in a few minutes. Well a few minutes did go by and I was finally ready to tackle the project at hand. She had been playing in our guest bedroom so I walk in there and say "Adlen can I please change your diaper"? She looked at me with a silly smile and shook her head no. Not an uncommon response so I ask again. Same thing, no. So I proceed now to take matters into my own hands. I go to grab her and lift up her night shirt and discover there is no diaper on her bottom. I pause for a second and then yell to Justin "she's not wearing her diaper" I begin to think that some where poop is smeared into a wall, carpet, or a pair of my jeans I left on the floor (knowing my luck). Then Justin repeats "she's not wearing one"? And by now Adlen knows that we know and begins to get a little panicked on how we'll respond. Justin walks in and asks if her bottom has poop on it and we discover it has very little, so I grab my wipe really fast and wipe her. We try and calm her down and ask "Adlen where is your diaper? Can you show mommy and daddy where it is"? She's really nervous now wondering how it's all going to go down and she just repeats "no, no, no", while she is walking towards the bathroom, so we pick up on it and Justin walks in to find a diaper in the trash (this is her chore when we change her diaper to go and put it in the trash) with only one side of the sticky part detached (this is how she takes it off, she'll detach one side and let it fall).

We couldn't help but giggle and thank her for being so helpful and remind her next time to tell mommy or daddy (as we proceeded to put a new diaper on)

We carved our pumpkin last night. I had these wild visions that we would sit around anxious to see the final result and we would have this amazing family experience. Fact- Adlen did watch the pumpkin carving for about 5 minutes then spent the rest of the time crying about not going for a walk. As I did damage control with her, Justin carved away. When I returned from putting her in the bath, the seeds had all been cleaned out and our pumpkin was about to become a Chargers icon. I gave my ok and we then discussed what type of face he should have. We decided on a pirate face. So Justin proceeded as I ran out the door to do my visiting teaching. This all took place with in 45 minutes (and I also called my mother in law Julie to ask at which temperature do you cook pumpkin seeds, and vacuum the upstairs)!

Happy Halloween or a bad mom?

We went to our wards trunck or treat the other day. This included a chili cook off, games and then the trunck or treat. After arriving at 6:30, Adlen ran around for a bit to see the other costumes, and then we played games. I must admit that I was bored after an hour, so we left, without trick or treating. I was really looking forward to her trick or treating, however she had already won a plate of cookies, two suckers and a new toy. So I weighed my options, stick it out for about another hour so she can get even more candy, or take her home, let her have more dinner and put her to bed with a full (healthy) stomach and a bath. I chose the bed time. Call me a bad mother for not letting her be a kid and have a trick or treating experience but given that we have another day of Halloween, I thought it would be ok...this time!

Did I do it?

I've been wanting to share our blog but wanted one of those cute backgrounds first, so I finally did it...yipee!! Just as an update we are all doing well. We are getting anxious for the arrival of our baby sometime in December and can't wait to have something so little to hug and kiss! I'm getting excited to have a little brother for Adlen, who is becoming better at accepting that we have a baby coming and can't wait to see what kind of sister she will be. Adlen is also becoming more like a little girl and less like a baby everyday :( . She loves to be outside, count, read books, color, dance and give hugs and kisses, and if she is watching a movie, she loves to act it out. We are so lucky to have her. Justin is enjoying his job, for the most part. It's challenging and complicated and I'm impressed with how well he's been able to take initiative and get things done! He has an incredible work ethic and I admire it. I'm spending my time relaxing as much as I can with a two year old while I just get bigger and bigger. I enjoy being with Adlen and watching her grow and take care of the house. I'm also getting more nervous to have a second, if I'll be able to manage it but I know that some how you just do. This is something that impresses me about being a woman. It seems any woman i know some how manages everything and what a great gift that is! We will keep you posted on our progress
Much love
